Review of Take This Waltz (2011) by Ian M — 06 Jul 2012
The relationship of Margo and Lou did not reflect a five year marriage but an insipid high school relationship. This couple flits around the house talking baby talk playing with each others lips and playing a game about telling eachother how they would carve eachother up with kitchen gadgets.
Along comes Daniel who appears to be everything Lou is not. Why Margo is incapable of communicating her sexual needs to Lou is incomprehensible. A mature woman in a loving relationship should be able to tell her husband her sexual desires . Instead she leaves Lou for Daniel and the relationship burns furiously and degenerates to sitting and watching the evening news on the couch.
The best scene in the movie is the shower scene where woman of every shape, age and colour is washing and talking after a swim class. This depiction of natural looking women is refreshing. OK, I have to admit I liked the sex scenes with Daniel. Otherwise Margot is such an immature character so as to render her impervious to the viewers sympathy. Sarah Silverman's character was gritty and real. Too bad there wasn't more of her.
