Review of Take This Waltz (2011) by Christopher M — 02 Sep 2012
Straddling the classic Drama / Romance / Comedy spectrum, this film never quite decides which of the three it wants to focus on - the drama isn't that dramatic; the romance fails to be romantic; and the comedy, well, isn't actually that funny.
However, there is a lot to admire here: Williams gives another pitch-perfect performance (there's a particularly memorable bit when she returns home, and looks at her house, and the reality of it all is written on her face in a way that few could manage to silently express); assured direction; a solid supporting cast; some memorable scenes.
But perhaps the wasted comic talents of those playing it straight could have been better used.
