Review of Take This Waltz (2011) by Saad K — 01 Oct 2012
Red Lights - TRASH IT (C).
Red Lights is about telekinesis, paranormal activities and psychics. Whether it's real or just made to make people fool. The movie starts strong with Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy on mission to find some existence of paranormal activity. They due then tries uncover the fake psychics who are making people fool on the name of psychics and existence of paranormal activates.
Sadly, Red Lights work in parts. It's good as long as Sigourney Weaver's character is alive, as you want to see the reason, the tension between veterans Sigourney Weaver and Robert Di Nero. I expected them to have a strong history and connection but sadly sudden demise of Sigourney's character from the movie left a vacuum in the movie. After that nothing made any sense and Cillian Murphy's character seems so weak and disappointing. There is no real shocker in the end as most of it you already expected so it ended up on sore tedious note.
Sigourney Weaver is great in Red Lights. Joely Richardson, Elizabeth Olsen and Craig Roberts are good in their small parts. Robert Di Nero is a veteran it's nothing new for him. Cillian Murphy is goo as long as he shares screen with Sigourney Weaver after that he seems lost and over the top.
In the end, Red Lights' first 40mints are interesting but after that it's just a drag. Trash It!
Take this Waltz - TRASH IT (C-).
Michelle Williams after Blue Valentine again plays a role of happily married woman falling out of love from husband (Seth Rogan)but this time she is falling in love with charismatic artist/RickshawDriver (Luke Kirby) (Yes Rickshaw Driver.. Hunn).
Sadly this is no close to blue Valentine, as this is one of those movies in which you are waiting and waiting for something exciting to happened but sadly it doesn't happened. We do see some unnecessary female nudity and man erotically telling how he will make love to her if given chance. But this doesn't make up for the tedious screenplay and zero characterization.
Eventually after almost hr and half they eventually kiss and made out we see camera rolling watching them in different sexual acts and then threesome?!? Seriously I don't think they were that desperate or immoral. It was just so weird as there is no explanation for their characters why they do like that, if they were so immoral why they never hooked up while she was married and with her husband? And why they don't have any work or proper purpose in life besides sitting on couch and watching TV?
Michelle William is good but her character is so weird that it hard to accept as I could never understand the reason for her being so awkward. Seth Rogan is alright. Luke Kirby is gorgeous, I think that was the reason for him to be in it.
Some people may thing that Sarah Polly made something really provocative but nudity or infidelity is not provocative until there is some cause behind it. Disappointing.
