As competently constructed as it is, "Take This Waltz" ultimately betrays itself as possessing the sort of amateurish self-consciousness one might expect from an angst-ridden, romantically frustrated teenage girl.
In this it is a fitting companion piece to "Garden State," a film with similar ambitions and shortcomings.
