Review of Take This Waltz (2011) by Raheem H — 13 Jan 2013
3/4 of this film is beautifully and maturely directed with compelling performances from Williams, Rogan and Silverman. Added bonus is its being set in Toronto. Polley captures that strong sense of realism of the every day while not losing the little metaphoric nuances of film making.
It is very delicately balanced. That said, the last 1/4 of the film falls off. The conclusion is rushed and untidy. Polley inserts variables that don't add anything to the overall plot nor are these variables at all consistent with the rest of the film.
Too bad given that the most of the film is very moving.
