Review of Take This Waltz (2011) by Kuanyin L — 18 Dec 2014
When I go to movies that are couched in reality like this one I tend to look for meaning, an underlying message that reaffirms the basic decency of the innately flawed human race. Perhaps it's a generational thing on my part. So, in watching this film I was willing to accept the confusion of the troubled young wife played by Williams, struggling to quash her animal desires for her handsome neighbor. It it went that far it would've been no less interesting. But director Sarah Polley couldn't leave well enough alone and took it down the heart crushing path, leaving me disgusted that movies like this get made.
So, what's the message Ms. Polley, that behind the angelic face of wives like Williams whose husbands are sweet and compliant, there lies heartless, sex crazed sociopaths? To which you would respond, "hey nobody's perfect!".
