Review of Take the Money and Run (1969) by Merlin B — 18 May 2011
Like all of Woody Allen's early movies, Take the Money and Run - his directorial debut - is messy and inconsistent, but I do like it better than Bananas and the rest. It's remarkable for being a very early attempt at toying with a mockumentary format, which Allen would master to great affect in Zelig, although here it's done very halfheartedly, and even abandoned for long periods of time - which is when the movie loses its focus entirely.
It's still hilarious though, and for Woody Allen lovers, it shouldn't be ignored.
