Review of Take the Money and Run (1969) by Chris G — 11 Jun 2007
Woody Allen's first attempt at writing, directing, and acting in a film was a success, and set the tone for the rest of his career. Although a bit rudimentary in its style and not as well-edited as his later films, this is a quirky Allen work that will simultaneously make you laugh and get you interested in Woody.
This is essentially a film adaptation of some of his earlier stand up comedy bits. Watch for his cello playing in the marching band and the jail escape scene. This is the first Woody Allen film I ever saw, and I have now seen the majority of his canon.
