Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Amir M — 05 Oct 2012
In a dystopian future, where weathermen are long extinct, Take Shelter tells the tale of a man blessed with the long-forgotten power of forecasting, and his perilous struggle to protect his family; fighting to make the world believe, once more, in the frightening power of nature.
Alright, that's not true.
The truth is: Take Shelter manages to be one of the best horror films in a long time, without being a horror film at all.
The end-of-days, familial drama, floods with reams of emotional impact, thanks to gorgeous pacing, and staggeringly powerful lead performances.
Genuinely terrifying, dread-inducing; and establishes Michael Shannon as one of my new, favourite actors. NOT OPTIONAL.
