Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Tomass P — 07 Apr 2013
There were two Michaels that were robbed of Oscar nominations for best actor in 2011: Michael Fassbender for "Shame" and here in "Take Shelter," Michael Shannon, whose portrayal of the obsessively careful, often delusional Curtis acts on his obsession for safely not just for protection, but for the love of his family, which includes Jessica Chastain as the wife.
Writer-Director Jeff Nichols, who had previously worked with Shannon in "Shotgun Stories," creates a real sense of paranoia for our main character that makes us feel as if we should be frightened for when a natural disaster occurs.
Five out of five stars; one of the best films of 2011.
