Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Jt K — 30 Nov 2013
While it can be a bit glacial in pacing, Take Shelter is an evocative portrayal of a man (Michael Shannon) who begins to have apocalyptic dreams that portent to the future...or he's going insane. The movie plays fair, treating each side of his experiences as equally probable.
Regardless of the eventual outcome, it's a stunning portrait of mental illness and its effect on the individual and those around him as well - with another fantastic performance from Shannon (who specializes in this sort of thing).
