Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Leopold B — 14 Dec 2014
A first rate disturbing, psychological thriller. There were times I wanted to stop watching this film; not because it was bad but because the material bothered me.
Michael Shannon gives a lifetime performance as a man who loses it all.
He suffers from apoctolyptic dreams that rapidly make him Paranoid...enough to build a shelter for his family.
His wife is played nicely by Jessica Chastain who I have really loved as of late. They also have a daughter who is deaf to add to the stress the family goes through. The movie chronicles a full on collapse and I wondered if this stuff was going to happen. It teetered on the line of being real which made it more effective.
Ultimately it was Shannons performance that made this movie as disturbing as it was.
