Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Dallas T — 24 Apr 2015
I didn't knew much about this movie, except that it apparentely had a disturbing ending, so I was expecting a slow, but intense drama with good characters and a mindf**k plot. Which is exactly what this is! This movie jumps from Curtis' dreams to what is actually happening, and sometimes it can be hard to realise is he dreaming or is it actually happening, which keeps the movie's surprise factor quite high.
The story is pretty good, it gets more and more interesting the more Curtis starts to go "crazy". Now, about that ending... I've no idea if it had a deeper meaning, or was it exactly what it was shown.
My guess would be it was another one of Curtis' dreams, just before he got hospitalized, but I honestly don't know. Speaking of Curtis, Michael Shannon was bloody brilliant! His acting was pure perfection, and I can't complain about him, nor the other actors, at all.
All in all, a very intriguing movie with great acting and interesting characters, but might feel a bit long. Would certainly recommend!
