Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Stephen C — 20 May 2012
Stories where the main character is on the verge of insanity are always intriguing to see, yet sometimes you feel cheated. Either it's all within their head, or there's a sudden realization that the main character was insane all along.
"Take Shelter" is a gradual 'awakening' of a man, although he suspects it's paranoid schizophrenia, which happens to run in the family. Michael Shannon is excellent in the role, a man who sees visions of a huge storm destined to wipe out everything, and starts to follow his continuing dreams, much to the discomfort of his wife and friends.
It certainly is an eye-opener, and quite an ending.
