Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Andrew R — 07 Mar 2015
Take Shelter is an amazing film that dives into what it is like to suffer from a serious mental illness. Michael Shannon's performance is great. He plays a man who is beginning to suffer from unexplained nightmares and paranoia.
We come to find out that his mother has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and he is afraid that he will follow in her footsteps. He begins seeing visions of a huge storm that is coming, so he begins building and expanding the tornado shelter at his home.
Jessica Chastian's supporting performance is also great The films score is outstanding. In the end of the film When the storm actually arrives, Shannon's family helps him get through the storm and they agree that they will stick with him through his troubles.
The film's symbolic ending really pushes the film from good to great with one of the best finales in the history of cinema.
