Review of Take Me Home Tonight (2011) by Christopher M — 29 Dec 2011
Watch this if...a run of the mill comedy with an 80's theme is appealing, but don't expect anything fresh here.
Acting/Casting: 6* - Topher Grace does a solid job in the lead role, but nothing stands out about his performance. I'm not a huge Dan Fogler fan in the first place and feel like he is the guy that people go to after many other fat sloppy guys turn down the part. Instead of being funny naturally, I notice him over acting the part. Chris Pratt is a gem and plays his part to a tee. In my opinion, Faris seems to get lost in the film in her support role.
Directing/Cinematography/Technical: 7.5* - The 80's atmosphere was great and I thought the film was well directed outside of Fogler. The film manages to keep your interest throughout and is entertaining.
Plot/Characters: 6* - While this is a recycled premise, the storyline has some cool new wrinkles that haven't been done before. The characters are easy to identify with, intriguing, and likable.
Entertainment Value: 6.5* - A fun 90 minutes that is worth a watch for any comedy fan. It provides some laughs, but the plot is nothing new. I wouldn't make it a goal to see it again soon, but I would watch if I was flipping through and it was on television.
