Review of Take Me Home Tonight (2011) by Walker F — 15 Apr 2012
This is a perfectly mediocre comedy. It has generic characters, plot (everything important happens on a date in which characters ominously refer to as "tonight") , bad camerawork, and generic jokes.
Most of the jokes miss, but when they hit, they hit big. The characters in the film are likeable enough except for Dan Fogler's character, the obligatory Jack Black character, who is played by someone in their late 30's that needs to be told they are not a teenager.
In other words I like Dan Fogler but did not believe for one second that he was a young kid. The main good thing about the movie is that you can see how hard everyone was trying. What keeps the movie from being as great as it should have been is that it's not as funny as it should have been and it never really lets loose.
Everything feels pretty tame and not crazy and then when the film goes off the rails in the third act it is calmed down in order to bring the obligatory happy ending where the guy gets the girl. I'd give this a mild recommendation.
