Review of Take Me Home Tonight (2011) by Kyle J — 01 Sep 2012
You know what you're getting here if you read the synopsis. There is no real attempt to reinvent any of the wheels, but it doesn't matter as much as you might think, The 80s setting is hilariously hammered into and the beats are formulaic. The jokes are expected and the character types are almost hilariously cookie cutter. But I did laugh and I did cringe (where I was supposed to) and I did root for our characters which means it works on some level.
It boils down to Micheal Cera and Jonah Hill's Superbad characters after College, but you know, in the 80s. And I'll be damned if the female lead doesn't look EXACTLY like a cross between Scarlet Johanson and Kristen Stewart. Honestly, it's unnerving.
