Review of Take Me Home Tonight (2011) by Jay L — 16 Aug 2011
"Tonight we're not thinking...we're doing.".
Take Me Home Tonight is "Dazed And Confused" in the 80's. Director Michael Dowse really hit the ball out of the park with this one, the laughs are abundant, the comedy is fresh and it has enough one-liners to go around for everyone. This film literally has the feel and the ambiance of an actual 80's film, everything from the characters to the clothing and especially the sizzling 80's soundtrack. A job very well done from Producers Brian Grazer and Topher Grace, as well as Director Michael Dowse, its a refreshing blast of 80's nostalgia that's absolutely stunning and gut-bustingly hilarious from the first scene until the credit roll. It's quite similar to Superbad, a bunch of youngsters have the night of their lives while encountering nonstop, funny as hell randomness. It's packed with crude humor, unending raunchiness, romance, and plenty of sex and drug use to go around. This was an awesome movie, it's an old blast of nostalgic comedy from a new wave of talent. A supremely well-crafted comedy that I believe to be an instant classic. Do yourself a favor and check this one out.
Topher Grace and one of my personal favorites, Dan Fogler have some dynamite comedic chemistry. Topher Grace gives his funniest performance since his career defining role on "That 70's Show". Dan Fogler is just brilliant, I mean this guy is hilarious. Anna Faris is great, Michael Biehn, hell, it's always good to see him, Teresa Palmer is great as well. A well-rounded cast with spectacular comedic talent make this film a must see.
