Review of Tag (2018) by Jayson S — 22 Jun 2018
A great surprise! Though you get the typical physical antics of Ed Holms here, there are some fresh performances with this film. Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, and Isla Fisher are fully committed and really entertaining.
My standout is Leslie Bibb. I've enjoyed her through the years, but her performance here is unexpectedly sassy and hilarious. Jeremy Renner, as the friend who has never been tagged, felt like an outsider.
The disconnect is explained to us as a result of him keeping his distance in an effort to never get "tagged", but it was more than that. He didn't come across as someone who cared much about these people around him, until the very end, to wrap it all up.
Even still, with a couple of these shortcomings, I was highly entertained, and I cannot ask for more than that with this film.
