Review of Tag (2018) by Socket M — 24 Jun 2018
With a charismatic cast and virtually no story lag, Tag is the perfect comedy to spend 100 minutes with a positive feeling afterwards. While nothing revolutionary is done in the film, it has solid writing and competent filming.
However the real draw is the chemistry between the cast. Not for a second did I not buy that these guys were friends their whole lives. And while these kinds of movies can feeling formulaic, It achieves at what it's trying to be.
It's a comedy with several laugh out loud moments, many quotable lines, and even some fairly impressive action scenes. But it's peppered throughout with a level of heart that even the meat heads can appreciate, but nothing that comes off as obnoxiously sappy or a desperate reach.
And any minor issues I've had with the plot are muted by the fact that this is based on a true story, and sometimes liberties must be taken, and certain true details must be incorporated for maintain integrity to the inspiration.
But all and all, it's certainly a recommendation.
