Review of Tag (2018) by Brendan N — 25 Aug 2018
These high concept films can either fail or engage and sadly this one fails at the tallest order. A great cast never connects and where the film should've delivered, it can't overcome the lack of genuine laughs.
The tag game itself is the best part but once Renner comes into the fold, the game grows tiresome as the team is left chasing him. The cast is talented but the overall tone is inconsistent with the humour.
The filmmakers seem content on being middle ground when they needed to be on one side of the fence. You can either be targeting the cruder market or the family market and sadly this film is just treading water for the better part of the film.
It does come together in the end but sadly it is not going to be a classic or something you recommend to everyone, it's just a time waster by the highest order. 25-08-2018.
