Review of Tag (2018) by Ray H — 23 Jun 2018
Didn't have high expectations with Tag, but it's fun enough to be a reasonably good comedy based on a very unlikely true story. Hogan (Ed Helms) has been playing tag every May for 30 years with his friends and as the end of May nears he gets the gang together in order to finally tag Jerry (Jeremy Renner) who has so far eluded them.
The set up is very stretched as Hogan tags Bob (John Hamm) in the middle of a Wall Street Journal interview and the reporter is so interested she comes along to document it. (The film is based on a WSJ article).
When they arrive in their home town, with Hogan's wife (Isla Fisher) also in toe, it's game on tag Jerry before he gets married and (apparently) retires. There are some very funny scenes, it's crude as you'd expect and nothing is off limits.
..well, except for one type of tagging. As far as silly comedies go it's not bad, I had some fun, but not overly memorable either.
