Review of Table 19 (2017) by Matt C — 12 Mar 2017
You know what? I always write full reviews of new releases that I see in theaters, complete with an introduction, a synopsis, pros, cons, some context, and a conclusion, but Table 19 is unique in that I genuinely don't think that it's even worth my time.
All of the actors either play flat versions of what they normally do or oversimplified archetypes. The script is so incredibly forced and amateurish that it reminded me of the spec script I started writing when I was 14 years old under the justification of it being "an exercise in dialogue" crossed with a web series as made by BuzzFeed.
The movie ends before the plot gets started and the movie is boring despite being 87 minutes including credits. The attempts at cringe comedy fall flat because these characters don't at all act like real people.
The shifts from pratfall comedy to drama have the subtlety of a bus crashing into a bomb factory. It felt like half of Anna Kendrick's lines were just her going "what the ffff--". Stephen Merchant is better than this.
I'm confused as to why the Duplass brothers put their name on this. *downs a bottle of champagne in one gulp* 2.5/10, horrendous, D-, leagues below average, etc.
