Review of Table 19 (2017) by Norm D — 29 Aug 2017

The number 13 usually is not a favorable omen. Nor 19 apparently. But at 13-mins one realizes this movie is an embarrassing dud. Theoretically it'a a comedy; but comedy is serious business and the folks who produced this wouldn't know funny from honey ... moon (since its main & nearly one and only set is a hotel ballroom wedding reception). Anna Kendrick (AK) was the draw - who knew she could make a stinker? But doing her best here yields nary a chuckle - and it's embarrassing to see her struggle in this awkward collection cricket sounds where there should be laughter. The net effect of the whole movie kinda makes ya sad. It tries to add soap-opera drama to an unfunny comedy of kooks. It achieves neither, drama or comedy.

The extra materials reveal that the producer-directors look & sound like Table 19'ers themselves. And there's your trouble, as the Dixie Chicks would say. Who gave these 19'ers the money for this ...? Again, AK was the regrettable green light, no doubt. Perhaps one of those doods was a Maine classmate of hers. So much for doing favors.

The last 15-mins picks-up a bit & stumbles over cheap-gags to a merciful end, but not until you've wasted an hour-15. And "Michigan" looks like Georgia from the git-go ... where the tax incentives are.

This is one to miss. It - is - a - dud !! | - Norm de Guerre.
