Review of Syriana (2005) by Kathryn C — 13 Sep 2009
This is so not a movie for people with short attention spans, nor for anyone who hasn't kept at least somewhat current with a lot of the world's events in the first decade of the 21st century. Three separate story lines on multiple continents with dialogue that's as important as just about everything else in the movie. This is one of -the- political thrillers of the decade. This is one of those movies you almost have to watch at least 2 or 3 times just to digest everything thrown at you.
With the cast consisting of what it is, performances are top-notch (as one could expect).
Personally, I like political thrillers/dramas, so I think it's brilliant. (I also seem to have a weak spot for Steven Soderbergh and writer/director Stephen Gaghan.) If you do too, check this one out. This is certainly NOT your mindless Friday night watch, however.
