Review of Syriana (2005) by Keith G — 28 Feb 2010
Complex and sometimes intentionally confusing film that features tremendous performances but leaves you in the dark and trying to piece together too much through most of the movie. The film purposely leaves the audience unsure of what the bigger picture is and trying to keep tabs on all the little mini-stories becomes a distraction.
This is really a shame since there are some really solid performances by Clooney (who won an Oscar) and Damon. Also at it's core is a political overstatement and almost lecturing to us about our greedy oil consumption habits.
Superb performances aside, the movie simply falls short.
