Review of Syriana (2005) by Trevor H — 25 Aug 2012
I first saw this movie in Florida in 2006 and reckoned it deserved a second viewing, principally to better understand the plot and see if Clooney was deserving of his Academy Award. Although I understood much more the second time around, it was still a labour, caused in the main by the complexity of the plot.
Add to this the non-linear style of several sub-plots weaving to a (wilted) climax. The viewer must concentrate fully throughout, and still, multiple viewings are perhaps necessary - I can't for example, figure William Hurt's role.
A disappointment, and the Academy Award? Well, it must have been a weak year.
