Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Tom K — 02 Jan 2010
This might just be the most ambitious movie I've ever seen. The first half of the movie is a tender character study, while the second half of the movie is a mess that makes no sense and is difficult to follow.
The movie is mind-numbing, I literally got a headache while trying to make sense of the film. It might be the film equivalent of James Joyce's novel Ulysses. Nonetheless, I applaud Charlie Kauffman's effort here.
He is still one of the top screenwriters working today, I just think this movie was un-filmable. Multiple viewings are required to grasp the true meaning and ideas of his film.
