Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Rachel S — 24 Jan 2010
Charlie, charlie, charlie... I can see the mass may call this film morbid and neurotic, but I find kaufman's neuroses as honest, sentimental and pure genius. how else would a socially awkward savant express his vision and keeping it in his flair? the oh-so-intellectual-roth-esque humor had made me laughed out loud and brought me back to the being-john-malkovich hour.
4 out of 5 stars. the missing star is for the pang I got from carefully following the dialogues and the outlandish "cast". if you blink, you'll miss something. something allegoric or metaphoric.
but it was good hurt for your brain muscles. after all, it's a movie about pain. and for personifying the murmuring torment of pining and loneliness, PSH should of gotten another oscar nomination.
for both kaufman and hoffman: synecdoche, new york = synecdoche, brilliance.
