Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Maryellen K — 04 Mar 2010
Charlie Kaufman steps out in his directorial debut with a dense, fascinating film. Something like 8 1/2 for the afterlife. Maybe. I need to see it again to unpack it more. Everyone is amazing in it, and the scope is both huge and universal while being specific and intimate.
I could see it not being for everyone, but if you like Kaufman's style, this film may be the best thing you've ever seen.
