Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Sean R — 16 May 2010
I think Shakespeare said it best:
"All the world's a stage,.
And all the men and women merely players;.
They have their exits and their entrances,.
And one man in his time plays many parts,.
His acts being seven ages.".
This was a very strange artistic film of character reflection. It becomes confusing as we travel deep into the creative mind of an artist and has us see his world on a stage (or better yet a lack of one). We reflect our choices everyday of how we could have done something better, or what if we said this word instead of that.
Philip Seymour Hoffman was brave enough to take on this role and present it is such a grand performance.
I would find it that not many people would enjoy this film and find it too confusing to understand the 'idea' of what the writer was trying to present.
I say give the entire movie a shot, because if you stop watching it and never get to the end, you may leave yourself with too many questions.
