Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by John J — 19 Jun 2010
Well this is interesting. A valiant flawed but thoughtful and humourous tale. Obviously its Screenwriter Charlie Caufmans first directorial film so everyone wanted to see how it turned out. It is very similar to Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, and does suggest that perhaps Caufman is running thin on ideas, repeating himself but on a grander scale this time.
It does come across very depressing and drags a bit too long maybe. It is interesting for the whole time, and its Philip Hoffman I have been able to watch and enjoyed for a change. Samanthan Morton and other cast are very good also but the script is just a bit limp and slow then ends a bit crap really.
Not the happiest film, but good.
