Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Dillon L — 21 Aug 2011
I think too many people overlooked this film as being 'emotionally distant.' This is some of Charlie Kaufman's most accomplished work. Admittedly, I had to watch a few scenes two or three times to fully make a few connections, like why Hazel's house seems to always be on fire, which leads to her demise in old age.
It occured to me then that Kaufman's talking about how the choices we make affect us later on. There are a lot of fascinating scenes like that that simply need to be analyzed in order to be discovered.
