Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Hoss R — 26 Nov 2011
For screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's first attempt at directing it's clear that this man has a lot of crazy yet wonderful ideas. Synecdoche tells the story of a theater director who gets lost in his work recreating a miniature new york while trying to figure out his own life.
The various themes and motifs in the film can be a bit confusing and overwhelming at times but one cannot help but sit and wonder what the heck is going on. Synecdoche is definitely another work of genius from the cerebral screenwriter turned director but it is not his best work.
Nevertheless with solid performances and script this film is definitely worth checking out.
