Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Mark M — 20 Mar 2013
One of the most frustrating films I have ever seen. I didn't turn it off because I was waiting for it to go somewhere. It didn't. It was just a bunch of artsy trippy mumbo-jumbo bull crap. I'm pissed at Ebert and hope that Siskel is rolling over in his grave.
This was Rodger Ebert's best film of the decade and was written by Charlie Kaufman who I think is a creative mastermind. As much as I wanted to get in with this movie and have it be this cerebral experience, it really never delivered.
I really hate this movie. Those who like this movie and say that I just didn't get it are idiots. I hate when people mix up good cinema with confusing cinema. It's not good just because you think you understood it and no one else is on your supreme level, this movie just plain sucks.
