Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Kimberley F — 05 May 2010
I like the direction, and the visual / metaphorical 'clues' that string this film together, but I found the characters unlikeable and this was at real detriment to my enjoyment. Given that it is an ambitious pieces of work, and I loved the idea of layer after layer needed to achieve 'realism' and how we ourselves are a layer, and the audience that is missing from the 'play' is ourselves.
I've given it a preliminary rating although I may feel differently about it later.
