Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Herschel M — 25 Sep 2012
A perfect film, in my opinion. I've never understood why critics lambasted it for being pretentious and confusing. It is actually pretty straightforward, if implausible, and if you can tap into the film's dream logic it can actually move you to tears (as it did me.
) With Synecdoche, Kaufmann gives us a number of memorable characters and weaves a beautifully-told story of a man losing his family, his youth, his health, and his grasp on reality. Wiest, Keener and Hoffman are particularly great.
