Review of Syndromes and a Century (2006) by Daniel G — 29 Sep 2007
This is a beautifully directed Thai film which shines for its naturalness in portraying daily life in a very documentary style way. It gives us a glimpse of their society in one of the most fly-on-the-wall ways possible.
It is a film that critics the changes that "progress" has brought in Thai society and its people over the decades and does so in two distinctive parts. The juxtaposition of both shows us how humanity in people's relationships has been lost due to the target-driven-logical-lives we have got used to create for ourselves in modern society and how they are making us miss out on the rich experience life could be otherwise.
Very original in its use of scant resources to create atmosphere and meaning. Great acting too.
