Review of Syndromes and a Century (2006) by Lucky K — 04 Mar 2008
A grandma leisurely pulls out a bottle of whiskey from an artificial limb. A fully-grown penis is shyly, politely tucked back into a doctor's underwear. A dentist during the day croons love songs at night.
These quirky little events unfold like snapshots of incoherent memories. They come and they go, compliment and contradict, but none seems eternal. As Apichatpong bifurcates the film, progressing from past to present, there is a sense that the world moves in a cyclical pattern yet there is always room for transformation.
