Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by Anthony S — 08 Feb 2009
Althought this is the first film from the Vengeance Trilogy, it's actually the third film I watched. One totally positive thing about the Vengeance Trilogy, is that although the tree films are about vengeance, all of them are quite different from each other.
Mr. Vengeance is, as described in the box syopsis, more about the "vengeance spiral", in which you find how violence generates violence and vengeance generates more vengeance. Compared to other films from this trilogy, this film is the one with a bigger load of social chriticism.
Also, in this film, the "Sympathy..." part from the title, really has an important meaning, as in this case actually everyone excepting the organ dealers "are vicitims", and there is no real "guilty" of all the circumstances which happen on the film.
You can actually feel simpathy for the two groups of characters involved in the vengeance. Although, at one point I didn't like how some of the events are developed in the plot, I found that it had to be that way, in order to achieve the chriticism and to pull the situations to the desired stage, where it could be further developed into the mentioned "vengeance spiral".
One characteristic of this film is that I found it to be the most stressing one from the trilogy; so, altough it's an excellent film, it's not for everyone.
