Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by Brock J — 01 Aug 2008
Cough, gasp, squirm. Wow. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is a great film, but one that will turn your stomach and cause you pain frequently while watching. Many a movie has been done about revenge, but rarely does one take the time to examine revenge in so complex a way.
Park's Revenge Trilogy does this extremely well (Note that the stories are all unrelated but only carry the Revenge theme through each) does this extremely well, and it starts here with this extremely intense picture.
The title says a lot, and poses an extremely disturbing question for the audience once the full breadth of the story comes to fruition. Doling out sympathy ends up being a very complex process.
