Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by David W — 13 Jul 2009
Having finally seen all three films of the unofficial trilogy, albeit in reverse order, this film seems a good introduction to what becomes a bloody, brutal, and fantastic set of films. In a series of mess-ups, a mute boy finds many people around him dead.
While the film at first seemed misplaced with Oldboy and Lady Vengeance, it shortly earns its gruesome place with a quick smash and grab of blood and brutality. Although less immediately thrilling than the following films, it deems itself worth watching with its conclusion.
