Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by Ashoka R — 29 Apr 2009
So I had watched this before I just didn't realize it.This movie is...well what can I say? Fucked. I thought watching it would make the rest of the series make sense but really they are their own separate entities. It's a rather slow film as the others where the action scenes punctuate a very serious and often shocking results. The scene with the box cutter is about the most brutal but still nothing that compares with Old Boy's hammer. The story drags on as you watch this brother try and earn money in order to get his sister a kidney transplant. Things never go right and soon the story splinters into two as you follow the father of the kidnapped girl and the kidnappers. Being ADD watching a deaf and dumb guy sign whilst trying to read the subtitles gets to be stimulation overload.
I can't honestly see many people getting into these films as it's not a large population group that would enjoy this kind of thing. If you see it on and have nothing better to do sure give it a watch other wise you aren't really missing out on anything if you choose not to sit through it.
