Review of Swiss Army Man (2016) by Nordahl N — 08 Apr 2018
So I never really gave this much attention when it was new, but after reading that this is some very original and fresh stuff I gave it a go. Indeed, it's fresh and original. Some guy, about to hang himself, befriends a dead guy that comes in on shore, passing gas like crazy.
Hank get's Manny to awaken and they become buddies for life as they are trying to come back to the real world as Hank is lost in a huge forrest far away from humanity. Hank teaches Manny how life works, Manny helps Hank by throwing up water, using his penis as a compass and shooting stuff with his mouth.
This is silly stuff. Often it does work really well, other times it doesn't. The saddest thing here is the way it feels dragged. You get bored, you get used to it. I never find this film to be something to "get" but something to just witness. Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe are both in shape, the themes are pretty cool and the ride is wild.
Too much farting, but there is also some real depth here and it stands as one of the most original films of 2016, that also could have been one of the best for me with minor improvements.
6.5 out of 10 fartdriven, human jetskis.
