Review of Swingers (2009) by Shawn W — 27 Mar 2011
Every time I hear "Duh, winning", thanks to Charlie Sheen, I immediately think back to this movie. "Money, baby." and of course, I don't think anyone in their early thirties can say Vegas, without enthusiastically shouting "Vegas, baby, Vegas!".
Swingers was a movie that came out my freshman year in college and during the short lived resurrection of Swing. It will always be the movie that defined those first few years of college and yes, there was a poster of Vince Vaughn holding a martini hanging in my dorm.
It was full of memorable performances, especially by a thin Vince Vaughn and it introduced us to a woman that till this day I think is one of the most beautiful actresses out there, Heather Graham. But it was Jon Favreu's insecured, depressed Mikey who the audience falls in love with. Because, no gig, no girl...no self esteem... Hangin with the boys. Who hasn't been there?
Written by Jon Favreu and directed by Doug Liman, Swingers will always be in my Top 20 films of all time.
