Review of Swingers (2009) by David M — 03 Mar 2012
A movie that works as a comedy of delving into the mid-20s male of the 90s, and the world of struggling actors. It succeeds mostly off the scene stealing performance of Vince Vaughn, who through some feat of acting miracle makes us okay with the fact he says "baby" and "money" every other word.
The writing isn't sharp per se, but it has a style, and it keeps it fresh enough as the plot is basically nonexistent, as we just sort of float along with these guys night after night. They all chase girls and hang out, and Mike tries to get over his heart break.
Jon Favreau is serviceable as Mike, but I couldn't help imagining that someone else would've been better at it. This also launched the mult-genred career of Doug Liman, who continues to impress.
A fun little comedy altogether, that we have to thank for the now one-note career of Vince Vaughn. You could've been so much more...
