Review of Swing Kids (1993) by Mike S — 18 Jun 2007
Alright, so Swing Kids, first of all, the plot itself is perfect, it carries the story well through out using swing music to show the Nazi take over in Germany. It really puts things into perspective and makes the German people not seem like the "big bad guys", shows how their youth fell victim to the Nazi take over.
As for the acting, it was strong all around, as usual Robert Sean Leonard is great in the part, and Christian Bale is also strong. One of the things I liked the best was the fact that one of Leonard's best friends begins to fall into the Nazi trap, adding a personal touch to the story.
The ending packs a punch and at the end you're left with a hopeless feeling. It's refreshing to see a movie not display all German's as heartless pigs. Finally we see that even they were victims to Nazism.
