Review of Swimming to Cambodia (1987) by David N — 29 Dec 2007
At first reading the basic info on this I thought a man talking of his experiences in film and in travel may be interesting but not too visually exciting. after having watched the monologue of spaldings gray. I realised that johnathan demme knew exactly how to put the right angle on the piece. with fantasic, ' and I mean that' cinematography, he cuts back on forth when he acts out himself and a nuclear arms operator on a train, with the image cutting back and forth of himself, the use of suttle sounds, music and light colouration also make this a real treat and so much more enjoyable and educational.
'For Spalding, 41-04'.
