Review of Swimming Pool (2003) by Michael O — 20 Aug 2008
Swimming Pool is a very sexy and intruiging movie. I'm beginning to suspect that Ozon knows the reasons why people like me go to see French mysteries. He's very cinematically literate, using the camera and the performances to bring out the different shades of psychology layered throughout this story.
The women in the film are fantastic, their sexuality is concealed, their bodies are wonderful and they withhold their beauty, leaving their secrets to be discovered. I still don't understand what the meaning of the final revelation is, it's what my father calls "pulling a Hitchcock".
Maybe the truth is hidden somewhere in the girl's diary, who knows? It's a movie about mysteries after alll. An enigma ceases to be once the riddle is solved.
